Men from Semarang, a small town in central Java, Indonesia, born with the name Tony Waluyo Sukmoasih. Born from a modest family, his artistic talent has terihat since childhood, especially in the field of painting and musik.Tony acquainted with the world of music through his friends and much influenced by the type of rock and blues music.
After completing his education at vocational technical schools (STM) Tony decided to start a musical career in the city of Semarang as a street musician since 1980, to make it close to the lives of street musicians Semarang city. In his hometown, Tony had made a compilation album of street children with their peers and have won some street music festival.
Because you want to try new challenges in music so he moved and tried to tempt fate to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. Because life is close to the street musicians, Tony went back into the same community in Jakarta. With the help of a friend who first engaged in the world Jakarta street musicians, Tony was encouraged his intention to start a music career in Jakarta as a musician. Entertain and play music from one place to another in around the outskirts of Jakarta street.
In mid-1984, upon the recommendation of a friend, Tony became acquainted with country music and started trying to play the kind of music at the time was not too popular among the people of Indonesia because not many musicians who play the music genre. Existence of country music playing, Tony began to make friends of the expatriate community in Jakarta, one of which is a community of friends of the United States embassy in Jakarta. Several times Tony was invited to perform at events organized by the United States embassy and the help from my friends at the embassy he managed to get an invitation to play in one of the biggest country music festival in America is the Grand Old Opree which took place in Tennessee USA States. However, due to lack of financial support, plans to perform at the festival can not be realized. For a long time country music played Tony began to feel the boredom and feeling that his career in country music did not develop until he decided to quit the band countrynya and began trying to find other types of music are more in line with his soul.
Tony became acquainted with reggae music in early 1989, when he fell in love with the figure of reggae music legend Bob Marley. Not only inspired by the music, the lyrics of Bob Marley songs in any really disturbing musical instincts, until he was sure to choose a career in reggae music and began to try to exist in the music genre. In the same year Tony formed his first reggae band called "Roots Rock Reggae". The first band started started his career with playing in pubs and cafes seputaran Jakarta's playing songs Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and others with Tony as lead vocal and lead guitar. In the way of his reggae music career, Tony had formed other reggae bands, such as "Exodus" and "Rastaman" and in 1994 he formed a band that would later take his name in the reggae music world Indonesia is "Rastafara".
With Rastafara, Tony's music career began to climb, because in those days very rare band musicians who played reggae music genre in jakarta, then Rastafara kalangn quite well known in reggae music lovers. Rastafara at that time regarded as the pioneer of reggae music because Indonesia is the only one who dared to reggae band for a rendition of his own creation and try to escape from the shadow of the style of Jamaica and reggae music almost all the songs created by Tony Rastafara.
In 1995, with the help of a friend, Rastafara managed to get an offer for the record album from Warner Music Indonesia. And finally the debut album titled "Hair Dreadlocks" was released in 1996. The album received very good response, and succeeded in giving a new color in the Indonesian music industry at that time was dominated by the Alternative Rock music. Almost all the songs on the album itself was created by Tony, lyric most talked about social themes, humanity, love and the theme of people's daily lives. Growing fan base, Tony begins to try to facilitate the desire of fans to form a fan club that spread almost all over Indonesia to get to neighboring Singapore, Malaysia and Australia.
